NOOD Regatta includes Lasers – June 26-27

Posted by admin on 01 Jun 2010 | Tagged as: home

The NOOD Regatta returns to San Francisco this year! And this year the definition of “offshore one design” has been extended to include dinghies! After all, we sail Lasers in Monterey Bay, that’s “offshore”, right?

Dinghies, including Laser Standards, Radials and 4.7s, will sail out of Treasure Island with racing probably just to the northeast of TI in the general Emeryville area. This course area will be shared by FD’s and Wetas.

The early registration deadline is June 14, only two weeks away. Sign up by the early registration deadline and save yourself the late entry fee! You can find the NOR for the NOOD at http://www.sailingworld.com/webfiles/San_Fran_NOR_10.pdf and you can go to https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_registration_form.php?regatta_id=2872 to sign up online (note that for this event US Sailing membership is required).

And don’t forget to use the PCC’s this weekend to tune up for the NOOD!

The Pacific Coast Championship for Laser Standards, Radials and 4.7s
will be held June 4-6 (Friday-Sunday) with sailing on the world famous
waters off of Santa Cruz, California! This will be the only major Laser
Class regatta of 2010 in the general San Francisco Bay Area and a good

Update on Upcoming Events

Lots of activity coming up in District 24 through the end of June!

1) The rescheduled Santa Cruz NorCals are on May 8th and will now be a one day event! Remember, this is the qualifier for the US Sailing Singlehanded Championships for Men and Women. This means the top male competitor in the Standard fleet qualifies for for the O’Day Championship, the top female competitor in the Radial fleet qualifies for the Women’s championship. And, importantly, the regatta sets the order of selection in the event the top competitor can’t attend – and this is frequently the case. Continue Reading »

Heavy Wind Technique – Tracy Usher

Posted by Ralph on 22 May 2008 | Tagged as: How To

Just in case any of the 11 racers weren’t sure, it was definitely windy
last night. The iWindSurf sensor on top of the Anita Rock pillar has the
average breeze in the mid-twenties with gusts pushing high twenties.
Couple this with the ebb tide and some pretty big waves and that is
about as windy as it gets for Laser racing!
